Biometrics SDK Benchmarking Challenge 2025 Evaluates Long-Term Fingerprint Performance

A key highlight of the Biometrics SDK Benchmarking Challenge 2025 was the use of a unique long-term fingerprint dataset comprising samples of children aged between 5 and 10 years, with a time gap of 5 to 10 years between captures.

This scientifically valuable dataset enabled UIDAI to assess how fingerprint verification systems perform in a one-to-one comparison setting as children grow, reflecting a strong emphasis on evidence-based evaluation and adherence to global best practices.

The challenge witnessed significant global participation, receiving 2,106 applications from technology providers and research organisations worldwide.

Following an initial phase of rigorous technical screening and compliance with stringent security protocols, three submissions were shortlisted for final evaluation.

Based on comprehensive performance testing, Neurotechnology from Lithuania secured the first position, while Innovatrics from Slovakia achieved the second position in the fingerprint modality category.

UIDAI congratulated the winners and acknowledged all participants for their active engagement in the challenge.

The Authority reiterated that such benchmarking initiatives are integral to its broader mission of strengthening research, development, and innovation in biometric technologies, ensuring that Aadhaar continues to deliver secure, reliable, and inclusive digital identity services.

Building on this initiative, UIDAI announced that it will soon launch similar SDK Benchmarking Competitions for Face and Iris modalities, inviting participation from the global research and development community.

Further details about the challenge are available on UIDAI.
